Launch/Release of Maruti Alto 800 at Rs. 2.44 lakh

Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, India’s largest passenger car maker, today launched the much-awaited Alto 800
The petrol variant has been priced at Rs. 2.44 lakh and would go up to Rs. 2.99 lakh, and promises a fuel efficiency of 22.74 kmpl. The CNG variant has been priced at Rs. 3.19 lakh to Rs. 3.56 lakh with a fuel efficiency of 30.46 km/kg.

The price of the existing Alto (petrol) ranges between Rs. 2.49 and 3 lakh, while the CNG variant is priced in the range of Rs. 2.97 to RS 3.48 lakh.

The new Alto's petrol engine can churn out 45.7 bhp of power at 6000 rpm and a maximum torque of 69 Nm at 3500 rpm. The CNG engine produces peak power of 40 bhp at the rate of 6200 rpm and a maximum torque of 56 Nm at the rate of 3000 rpm.

The new-look Alto is only available in the 800 cc option, while the 1,000 cc option will still be available in the previous avatar.

Speaking at the launch, managing director Shinzo Nakanishi said the company has already received 10,000 bookings for the vehicle.

The car will be available in six colours—Frost Blue, Blazing Red, Silky Silver, Torque Blue, Granite Gray and Superior White. One of the most important additions is an airbag on the driver’s side.

The Alto has been India’s best-selling car for eight straight years, and Maruti will hope to extend its lead over other major players in the small-car segment, mainly Hyundai and Ford.
